Why Lenticular Printing?

Lenticular Printing is a method of printing that allows multiple pictures to appear on a single print, depending on the angle it is being viewed at. The process can be used to create animation effects, create a 3D effect or to show different images that appear to blend into one another.
As advertising becomes more pervasive in society, new ways of getting your product out there is required, which is where lenticular printing comes in.
It is eye-catching, novel and stylish, with a variety of effects and will draw the attention of anyone who sees it. Not only that, they will remember it. It’s not just advertising, it’s entertaining, and it will lodge your product in the minds of all who see it.

Example: A 2-image Lenticular Print

What is Lenticular Printing?

There are two components to a Lenticular print, the interlaced image – a flat litho printed image of alternating stripes that consist of the images to be viewed - and the ribbed lenses, placed over each stripe.
Any number of pictures can be used in the lenticular image; they are collected, split and interlaced into each other, before being litho printed then having lenticular lenses placed over the image. The finished product has a groove effect, which you can feel if you were to run your finger over it.
Lenticular Lenses are made from strong plastics like PETG, PVC and acrylic and – depending on the lens type - can survive extremes of weather making them suitable for outdoor signs and are resistant to fire, scratching and vandalism.
We can print lenticular prints as small as postcards or as big as billboards, for a variety of purposes from mail drops to fliers, from Adverts to posters, Vans to Vending machines and much more.
Lenticular Printing is often confused with holography - like those found on some ID cards and on your Credit or Debit Card – however, they are very different processes.
Holograms have a very limited colour range and are created using lasers. They also are generally limited to two images that they can flip between.
Lenticular prints, however, can use any image that can be printed on a normal printer, using full colour and any number of separate images (depending on various factors, anything up to 30 images) to create a variety of effects that cannot be done using holograms. Lenticular prints can also be back-lit

Lenticular Effects

3D – where two images of the same thing are used, but taken from different angles, then printed, so that as you look at the print, you see a 3-dimensional image, as the angle of change is so small that the distance between your eyes is enough, allowing a true 3D effect without 3D Glasses
Two-image flip – where two images of different things are used and are flipped, for example, changing text (like hiding/showing a slogan) or whatever else you require
Animations – where multiple images are shown in sequence as you move across the lenticular print, like someone walking, or a short movie clip. You can combine this with digitally created effects and transitions, like fades and morphing.

Depending on the Effect required, the size of the print and where it will be displayed will affect the type of lens we would recommend using.
